pH Balance Your entire body is affected by pH

Two Factors Always Present with Cancer: Acidic Body and Lack of Oxygen—Tips to Re-balance your pH. This teaching is about the pH of blood and body tissue, not of stomach acid.

Few minutes of your time will bring you more understanding in the vital functions

We have several built-in, automatic mechanisms that regulate pH, involving our kidneys, lungs, and skin. The lungs help by excreting acids as carbonic acid. The kidneys excrete acids through the urine after neutralizing them by drawing available mineral compounds from the blood and tissues (such as muscle tissues). But if the kidneys face excessive acid levels or insufficient buffering minerals in the blood and tissues, then the body is forced to tap into our bones’ alkaline mineral reserves, or the delicate kidney tissue will be burned by the acids.

A quick chemistry lesson: pH is a measurement of acidity or alkalinity. The picture below shows the pH scale running from 0-14 with 7 in the middle being neutral. Everything below 7 is “Acid”, the lower the number the more acidic and everything above 7 is “Alkaline”. Most experts agree that ideal health exists when the pH of the general body fluids is around 7 or slightly above.

ph-range_naturalHealthStoreUSWe’ve all seen the term “pH-balanced” on skin-care products. Most of us know it has something to do with the natural acid in the skin, and that if the product is pH-balanced, it won’t dry out the skin.

But pH goes a lot further than that. In fact, the entire body is affected by pH, and a body out of balance is more likely to be at risk for disease—including infections, bone and joint deterioration, digestive disturbances, and cancer. pH testing is not a diagnostic test, but a useful tool in evaluating overall health.

We can think of the body as an environment, or what Steven H. Horne, calls “biological terrain.” Just like a stagnant swamp is more likely to breed mosquitoes than a bubbling brook, an out-of-balance body is more likely to serve as a favorable environment for disease. Contributing to the health of this environment is pH, or what is known as the balance between acid and alkaline in our body’s tissues and fluids.

In the body, a mildly alkaline state contributes to fluidity and relaxation—this is the body’s most healthy place to be. Excess alkaline makes tissues too lax, lethargic, and instable. Mildly acidic compounds, on the other hand, keep tissues firm and toned. Too much acid, however, and tissues get rigid and dry.

Excess acid can show up as high blood pressure, hardening of the arteries, arthritis, muscle stiffness, tension, kidney stones, weight gain, immune deficiency, premature aging, and increased risk of cancer. In today’s world, an excess of acid is the most common pH imbalance. In fact, many doctors think that the high acidity in our bodies today is the cause of many of our current diseases:

There are two factors that are always present with cancer, no matter what else may be present. Those two factors are acid pH and lack of oxygen. Cancer cells do not survive in an oxygen-rich environment. At a pH slightly above 7.4, cancer cells become dormant and at pH 8.5 cancer cells die, while healthy cells will live.”

How do we get out of balance?

In a word, diet. The typical American diet—too high in acidic animal products and too low in alkaline-producing vegetables—creates imbalances in our bodies, to the point where we cannot properly absorb nutrients, even if we’re taking vitamins everyday. Pile on extra acid-producing foods like sugar, white flour and soft drinks, along with artificial sweeteners (extremely acid forming), and you have a body drowning in acid that is no longer able to process it all. Meanwhile, cells are swimming in a dangerous environment where cancer can thrive.

How do you know if you have a pH imbalance? First, you can test your pH levels with pH Test Strips Stock # 2918-8 you can use in your own home. These typically test the pH in your urine and your saliva—optimal levels are 6.0–7.0 and 6.5–7.5, respectively.

If you find you’re out of balance (most people are too acidic), you can do several things. First, change your diet to include more alkaline-producing fruits and vegetables. Choose honey and maple syrup for sweeteners over sugar and artificial sweeteners, and green tea over black tea.

Breathe more deeply on a regular basis—lack of oxygen contributes to more acid waste. Next, consider an enzyme supplement like Food Enzymes. Since we eat so many processed and cooked foods, we often lack the proper enzymes to break food down and extract nutrients from them, which again, increases acidic waste. An enzyme supplement can help improve digestion.

Heard enough about reducing stress? Here it is again—stress stimulates the nervous system, which drives an acid reaction in the body. Adapt coping techniques like stretch exercises, develop your communion with God, and/or massage.

You may also want to try a calcium and magnesium supplement—both alkalizers for the body. Finally, work with your own digestive system—avoid foods that you have a hard time digesting, as these will increase the acid content in the body. Take a regular fiber supplement or eat yogurt to maintain regular bowel movements.

pH-balance_NaturalHealthStoreUS-CarmenRodriguezDr-01First thing in the morning, get a test strips (close container to avoid getting wet).

a. Testing with urine: Either urinate directly on the paper or collect urine in a cup and dip the paper into the urine in the cup. Please note that first morning urine is the most valuable pH reading. .

b. Testing with saliva, spit it out into the sink, and spit again over the strip. Do not eat, drink or brush your teeth before the test.

c. Write results. Our strips are; Fast, accurate, easy-to-use, one dip–one color match.

pH-balance_NaturalHealthStoreUS-CarmenRodriguezDr-02Saliva Testing may indicate the activity of digestive enzymes in the body. These enzymes are primarily manufactured by the stomach, liver and pancreas. While the saliva also utilizes buffers just like the urine, it relies on this process to a much lesser degree. If the saliva pH is below 6.5, the body may be producing too many acids or may be overwhelmed by acids because it has lost the ability to adequately remove them through the urine. If the saliva pH is too acid, the body may suffer greatly, e.g. excess gas, constipation and production of yeast, mold and fungus. Some people will have acidic pH readings from both urine and saliva—this is referred to as “double acid.”

pH-balance_NaturalHealthStoreUS-CarmenRodriguezDr-03 pH-balance_NaturalHealthStoreUS-CarmenRodriguezDr-04Urine Testing may indicate how well your body is excreting acids and assimilating minerals, especially calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium. These minerals function as “buffers.” Buffers are substances that help maintain and balance the body against the introduction of too much acidity or too much alkalinity. Even with the proper amounts of buffers, acid or alkaline levels can become extreme. When the body ingests or produces too many of these acids or alkalis, it must excrete the excess.

The urine is the perfect way for the body to remove any excess acids or alkaline substances that cannot be buffered. If the average urine pH is below 6.5 the body’s buffering system is overwhelmed,  attention should be given to lowering acid levels. Urine pH values: In a pH balanced body. urine is slightly acid in the morning, (pH = 6.5 – 7.0) generally becoming more alkaline (pH = 7.5 – 8.0) by evening in healthy people primarily because no food or beverages are consumed while sleeping.

The strong acids they process can be seriously corrosive The kidneys must dilute these strong substances quite a bit. Otherwise, the kidneys themselves become damaged. Kidney Drainage is an herbal extract very beneficial will need at least 3 of these small bottles.

A simple way to help these overworked organs is by drinking lots of pure water everyday.

If your urine pH is consistently higher that 7.5, here are some possible reasons:

  • You could be at the opposite end of the spectrum called alkalosis. This is rare, though.Typically, people that are too alkaline are eating a strict vegetarian, vegan, or raw food diet. Shifting the diet toward more healthy acid-forming foods would be in order.Too alkaline is just as bad as too acidic – it is just much more rare.
  • You could be suffering from a glandular problem. This is even more rare than the first reason and more than likely you would already be aware of the condition.
  • This is the most common cause. Your body is so acidic that your kidneys are producing ammonia in an effort to neutralize the toxic acids. If this is your situation, you should try to locate a reputable doctor familiar with alternative medicine that can get you back on track.Remember that healthy urine should read between 6.5 and 7.25 on the pH scale. If your urine pH reading is at 5.5, that is ten times more acidic than 6.5. And at 4.5 your urine is 100 times more acidic than 6.5.So don’t make the mistake of thinking that your pH is “just a little off.”Listen to what your kidneys are trying to tell you!

And help them out – they are one of the most overworked organs (if not THE most overworked) in our bodies. Make their jobs a little easier by bringing your body back to balance. Your health will benefit tremendously from it.

However, please don’t stress about an acidic reading.  Too much stress if incredibly bad for you too.  Just work on eating lots of fresh veggies with your meals with your herbal supplements.

pH-balance_NaturalHealthStoreUS-CarmenRodriguezDr-05Saliva pH, because it is the most critical reading.  Saliva is formed out of the lymphatic fluid that bathes every cell in our body.  Hence, the pH of your saliva gives us an idea of the pH of your internal “lymphatic ocean.”  If the pH of your saliva is consistently too acid, then you are either creating too many acids in your body or you are not eliminating acids properly. Digestive and eliminative functions (particularly the kidneys and lymphatics) may need support.  Take digestive enzymes and use Kidney Drainage and Lymphatic Drainage.  Mix one teaspoon of each of these formulas into a quart of water and sip throughout the day to enhance elimination of waste acids.pH-balance_NaturalHealthStoreUS-CarmenRodriguezDr-06

pH too acidic? Suggestion:

  1.  Vitamin D3 helps hold calcium in the body. Taking NSP’s Vitamin D3 and Super Omega 3EPA will help the body buffer acids. Take 1-2 of each daily.
  1. Cleanse as needed: Bowel Detox (very mild and effective) at bedtime to maintain regular bowel movements. Use CleanStart or Chinese Tiao He Cleanse twice a year for liver, bowel and kidney detoxification.
  2. Strengthen urinary and lymphatic systems’ ability to excrete acids: Take Kidney Drainage and Lymphatic Drainage daily in water.

Note that a food’s acid or alkaline-forming tendency in the body has nothing to do with the actual pH of the food itself. For example, lemons are very acidic, however the end-products they produce after digestion and assimilation are very alkaline so lemons are alkaline-forming in the body. Likewise, meat will test alkaline before digestion but it leaves very acidic residue in the body so, like nearly all animal products, meat is very acid-forming.

Have you tested your pH? Did you make changes as a result? Please share your story.

Be patient and persistent, your pH indicates your reserve of alkaline minerals. It can take time to build up these reserves.  It may have taken decades to get where you are; a few months to sustained repair and renewal are well worth!

Average pH Values

To get a quick average pH, you can test yourself 2 hours after breakfast and 2 hours after lunch. Do this over a period of days to get your average numbers. Then use this formula:

(Average urine pH ____ + average saliva pH X 2 ___ ) / divided by 3 = ___
