The biggest news this week was perhaps Google’s announcement to bring the vaunted and speedy Google Fiber network to Austin, the third city in the United States that will receive the 1-gigabit fiber network. It was such a big announcement that AT&T felt compelled to publish a press release announcing its own fiber network in Austin, although it’s not clear if it’s just a bluff or a stunt to steal Google’s thunder.
In the “cellphones are getting bigger” news department, Samsung announced what is the biggest smartphone yet, the gigantic 6.3-inch Galaxy Mega. Meanwhile, tablets are getting smaller. Rumors this week indicated that Microsoft plans to shrink the Surface to 7 inches.
